Youth Commission on Alcohol

YCA

In 2010, Young Scot completed a unique study with the Scottish Government to examine Scotland's relationship with alcohol and its impact on young people both now and in the future.

The National Youth Commission on Alcohol was a 12-month research project, completely led and carried out by 18 commissioners aged between 14 - 21 years old, supported and facilitated by Young Scot.

Their work included a number of meetings with high profile industry experts, in-depth consultation with their peers, comprehensive desk research, five intense residentials and two international study visits.

The Commissioners researched evidence into Scotland's relationship with alcohol and came up with 38 policy recommendations for the way forward.

The young Commissioners identified eight key recommendations focussed around education, social marketing, advertising and availability to name a few, presenting their final recommendations to the Public Health Minister, Shona Robson MSP, in March 2010.

This project allowed Young Scot to work with key intermediary groups to ensure young people whose voices are seldom heard also get the chance to have their say.

The final report and recommendations can be accessed by clicking on the links below.
