Truth About Youth

In 2009, Young Scot teamed up with the Co-operative Foundation to run a three-year intergenerational project aimed at tackling the negative perceptions of young people in Glasgow.
Now in the second year of the project, Young Scot has recruited and trained a core group of 20 young people who meet with older members of the community to discuss and challenge the negative perceptions of young people.
Alongside face-face communication the project has a strong focus on digital media. The intergenerational blogging platform, www.thepatter.org was developed to give both young and older people the opportunity to discuss openly and honestly their views of young people in the city.
Another aspect of the project is to showcase the positive stories of young people in the media. We've been working with Scotland's biggest selling newspaper, The Sunday Mail to produce quarterly Truth About Youth supplements, which goes out to over 100,000 homes across Glasgow.
The project is set across seven cities in the UK with Truth About Youth projects taking place in Birmingham, London, Bristol, Newcastle, Manchester, Cardiff, and Glasgow.
The Truth About Youth project is part of the Co-operative Foundation's Inspiring Young People, Join the Revolution programme, which aims to ensure young people across are viewed and treated equally across Britain.
