Scottish Natural Heritage

Young Scot has been working in partnership with Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) to encourage young people to enjoy and explore Scotland’s outdoors.

The partnership has included three key elements:

-  Tailoring the existing SNH “Simple Pleasures” campaign for young people. In 2012, Young Scot gathered over 1000 outdoor experiences of how young people enjoy the outdoors in Scotland.

- Taking these experiences, Young Scot and SNH launched a Facebook app, ‘Scotland’s Outdoor Challenge’ which was a top 50 list of the most popular outdoor experiences gathered. Using the principles of social gaming, young people were encouraged to check-off how many experiences they had completed and then share their results with their friends.

 - To celebrate the Year of Natural Scotland in 2013, Young Scot and SNH will be launching a second Facebook app,‘Natural Scotland Photo Challenge.’The aim of this app is to encourage young people to share what outdoors in Scotland means to them through the use of photography.   The images gathered will then be showcased on an interactive map of Scotland later on in the year. The app will be running from May – November 2013.
