Measuring, Managing and Reducing Our Carbon Emissions Report 2010/2011
Young Scot is committed to delivering our services to young people in the most effective and sustainable way as possible.
In 2010/2011, we were delighted to learn that the actions taken in helping to reduce our carbon emissions has resulted in a significant reduction in our carbon footprint by 30% since 2009/2010.
The 2011 report, 'Measuring and Managing Our Carbon Emissions'produced in accordance with Defra's (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) guidelines and reviewed by Osbert Lancaster an independent consultant facilitator for sustainability, outlines the measurements taken by Young Scot to reduce our carbon footprint 2010/2011.
The 2011 report outlines that by seeking advice and support from organisations such as A Better Way To Work, we have seen a significant decrease in our carbon footprint throughout various practices in the organisation. For example, business travel emissions total 40 t02e has seen a decrease of more than 50% from 2009/2010, there has been a decrease of 27 tC02e from the magazines and the books from the previous period, and through a review of business travel policy Young Scot has seen business travel drop from 85 tC02e to 40tC02e.
The report highlights the actions Young Scot will take to further reduce its carbon emissions by an additional 5% in March 2012. A significant step has already been taken towards this by moving the print of the Young Scot Information books from Dubai to Scotland, which will result in an 84% drop in emissions from shipping.
Going forward, Young Scot will continue to put into practice its core values of being a responsive and forward-thinking organisation. As a leading information provider to young people there are opportunities to inform, engage and influence them about climate change and other sustainability issues. As a result, it is paramount that the services we provide for young people continue to be innovative and inspiring in both the thinking and delivery.
