Young Scot Outreach

Outreach work enables us to come face-to-face with our most valued customers, young people through visits to schools, colleges and events all over Scotland. This is the best way of engaging with young people in their own environment.

Youth Engagement

Our bright magenta and yellow branded vehicles make it possible for us to travel around the country, spreading the Young Scot message in the most eye-catching of fashions.

Our ‘wheels’, the van, the Warrier and the InfoMobile, never fail to attract attention. The trailer can be towed and opened out indoors or out and it can be set up as an instant cyber café using the electricity supply, laptops and plasma screen.   The InfoMobiles are a great way of engaging with young people hail, rain or shine.

Schools, Colleges and Universities

Young Scot has a strong presence within schools, colleges and universities and this allows us to promote our key messages to the post-school audience and provide information on a variety of topics including credit unions, information literacy, and citizenship and using the internet.

The Outreach Service also works directly with school pupils to assist them in filling out their application for a Young Scot NEC Card and we attend Scottish university student Fresher’s Fayres’ throughout the year.

Events

The outreach service is available for events all over Scotland including shopping centre fashion shows, under 16’s discos, worldwide celebrations such as the World Pipe Band Championships, regional events in local authorities and festivals like T in the Park.  .

Young Scot Academy

Another part of our exciting outreach services is the Young Scot Academy.  This is a training scheme which enables young volunteers, aged 11 to 26, to get involved in Young Scot by producing information, creating opportunities in their local community and widening their skills in a variety of areas including negotiating discounts, media training, video blogging, creating podcasts and web content.
