Young Scot NEC Card

Discounts, special offers, access, voting, proof of age; from just one piece of plastic? Must be the Young Scot card!
*

Young Scot is often most famously known for the Young Scot NEC Card and all the amazing discounts it offers. The new and improved cards are about much more than just discounts.

  • The National Entitlement Card (NEC) programme was created by the Scottish Government who worked in partnership with all 32 local authorities.
  •  The programme aims to give people easier access to local authority services from ‘cradle to grave’.
  • The Scottish Government recognised the importance of introducing people to the benefits of the NEC card programme from a young age and therefore teamed up with Young Scot to co-brand the cards.

Key Benefits of Young Scot NEC Card – Discounts

The Young Scot NEC Card enables young people, aged 11 – 26, to access over 1,400 discounts and special offers in Scotland alone.  The discounts include shopping, travel, food and general fun at lots of big names including Topshop, Pizza Hut and the AA.

In addition, the Young Scot NEC Card offers cheaper public transport for young people.  Young people aged 16, 17 and 18,are entitled to one third off adult single fayres on buses all over Scotland, a free Scottish Youth Rail card which cuts a third off train fayres in Scotland and two free return ferry journeys to the mainland if you live on an island.

Young cardholders can access hundreds of unique discounts in their local area too including local hairdressers, fashion stores, recording studios and driving schools.  The Young Scot NEC card can be used to access discounts in 42 European countries on everything from hotels in Spain to restaurants in Italy and museums in the Netherlands.

PASS

The Young Scot NEC card has a PASS ‘ proof of age’ hologram, enabling young people to use their card as valid proof of age across the UK to access nightclubs, buy DVD’s or go to the cinema to see the latest films.

The Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) was set up by a group of trade associations and government agencies to help find a solution that could protect both the retailer and the young person in relation to buying age restricted goods. PASS has the power to accredit organisations to issue cards with the PASS hologram and Young Scot is the only Scottish based issuer.

What else does the Young Scot NEC offer?

As if discounts, access to local services and proof of age wasn’t enough, cardholders can register on the Young Scot website to make use of additional services. Registered cardholders can sign up to receive e-newsletters from Young Scot, enter competitions and much more.  The Scottish Youth Parliament also offer cardholders the opportunity to vote online for the next Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSYP).

How to get a card?
