Young Scot & Podcasting

*

Young Scot originally worked in partnership with BT to introduce podcasting to www.youngscot.org.

A podcast offers a powerful medium for people who prefer to receive information in an audio or visual format. Making a podcast provides an alternative method of engagement for young people, offering a variety of roles, such as researcher, interviewer, script writer, editor, etc.

Podcast Channel

There are a large variety of podcasts on issues such as sport, the arts, money, health, discounts and much more.  They are all uploaded to www.youngscot.org/podcasts  and streamed live from the site and nothing is saved to the computer afterwards.  So this combats any ‘no downloading rules’ set by schools, libraries and other public establishments.

Young Scot: In Tune

We launched a monthly podcast during 2009 called ‘Young Scot: In Tune’.  The podcast is around 20 minutes long and it’s a mixture of information, interviews, features and advice on a range of topics. The podcast is also designed to compliment the Young Scot magazine, so young people can listen to the articles they have read. Listen to Young Scot: In Tune at www.youngscot.org/podcasts

Podcast Training

We have created a training package called ‘Hack Pack’ to teach young people how to make a podcast from start to finish. The training covers practical instruction on using the equipment, good interview and script writing techniques, and how to edit your podcast, with the overall aim of providing podcasts for young people made by young people.
