Young Scot & PASS

Thousands of young people in Scotland are currently enjoying the discounts that the Young Scot NEC card provides in clothing stores, restaurants, transport and much more!

Discounts are great, but nowadays there is much more to the Young Scot NEC card!

The Young Scot National Entitlement Card (NEC) is recognised across Scotland.  Young people can use the card to access cashless catering at school, to gain access to leisure facilities, libraries and other council services, and to get discounted travel.   We are working hard with the councils to enable the card to be recognised by the systems that support these services.

The Young Scot NEC card is also now an accepted proof of age for all age-restricted products since it carries a PASS badge..  PASS is the Proof of Age schemes that is run by the British Retail Consortium (BRC), across all of the UK.  The scheme is approved by government, local authorities, police and trade bodies, and only organisations which meet their stringent audit procedures are allowed to incorporate the PASS hologram logo onto their cards.  Young Scot is the only Scottish-based organisation that is accredited to issue cards with the PASS logo.

The card can be used as ID to open a bank account in Scotland and airlines now accept the card as proof of ID for domestic flights into and out of Scottish airports.  We are working hard to promote the card to young people and also to educate retailers to ensure young people can access all the benefits of having a PASS-approved card.

Some local authorities issue a version of the Young Scot card that precedes the NEC.  This card contains a PASS hologram, but will not provide all of the council services.  We are working with these local authorities to help them migrate to the NEC.

Remember…the card is issued by all 32 local authorities in Scotland and is for people aged 11 - 26 years old.  Young people can apply for a card through school, by contacting their local authority or by calling the friendly Young Scot InfoLine team free on 0808 801 0338.
